The public was asked to avoid the area of Nicholson Square Village "for an active police incident" at 11:16 a.m. the department stated in its original release. The exact intersection listed in the release is Scotland Avenue and Woodstock Road. The incident was resolved shortly before 1 p.m., according to an updated release.
"This was an isolated incident, there is no danger to the public," the police said.
The incident was connected to a homicide Chambersburg police began an investigation around 10:57 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, according to an updated release. Officers were called to a report of "a deceased male" at 132 Lincoln Way West.
They arrived to find a 22-year-old man dead with "what appeared to be a gunshot wound and other injuries consistent with a physical assault," as stated in the release.
The officers gathered videos from the neighbors to piece together what led to the man's death and learned "a dark blue BMW SUV that had left the vicinity of the incident" and two Black men were seen with the vehicle, as stated in the release.
They tracked the SUV to Woodstock Road and were able to run the license plate to match the vehicle's owner to a home on Ashley Drive — prompting the police to go to the neighborhood and call for PSP SERT around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
